Technology has increasingly been integrated into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education to enhance various language skills, including writing. However, the specific challenges and benefits of utilizing technology to improve EFL writing skills remain underexplored. This systematic literature review (SLR) addresses two research questions: 1) How has technology been integrated into EFL classes to enhance writing skills? 2) What are the challenges and benefits associated with technology integration in writing skills in EFL classes? This review analyzed 30 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2020 and 2025 using the PRISMA method. The findings highlight diverse technological tools and methods, including AI-based systems like Grammarly for personalized feedback, collaborative platforms such as Google Docs and blogs, and multimedia resources for improving creativity. Virtual learning platforms and corpus-based tools also play a significant role in supporting academic writing development. While these tools enhance collaboration, creativity, and engagement, challenges such as accessibility, resource demands, and the need for teacher training persist. This review highlights technology’s transformative potential in EFL writing instruction and provides actionable insights for educators, researchers, and policymakers. Further research should explore context-sensitive solutions and innovative approaches, such as gamification and virtual reality, to optimize technology integration and address existing challenges. © 2026 American Institute of Physics Inc..
