This chapter presents a review of literature and research results on practices of language skills integration (hereafter LSI) in English as a foreign language (hereafter EFL) contexts in Indonesia. The paper will first of all briefly present the introduction to the chapter, especially regarding the urgency and demand of LSI in an EFL context. This will be followed by the description of the theory on LSI and current research issues and major contributions on LSI in EFL contexts in Indonesia. It will be alluded to that LSI has gained a lot of interest from English language educators and researchers in Indonesia for the last two decades, seen from the publications over this period. This is also supported by the curriculum of English in Indonesia since 2004 until now (The Emancipated Curriculum) which has emphasized the teaching of English language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing integratedly using systemic functional linguistic genre pedagogy (SFL GP), the practice of which will be mentioned briefly. The chapter will also present the practice of LSI in CLIL (Content-Language Integrated Learning), materials and book development by educators and the government, and the use of technology in LSI. © 2026 selection and editorial matter, Subhan Zein and Fuad Abdul Hamied; individual chapters, the contributors.
