Teaching Mathematicsas tobe Meaningful– Foregrounding Playand Children’s Perspectives is a book that presents the results of the POEM5 (Playful Opportunities for Early Mathematics) conference held in 2022. This book aims to strengthen the theoretical and practical basis of how mathematics should be taught to be more relevant and enjoyable for children, as well as provide insights for developing teaching methods that focus on children’s experiences and perspectives. Through various case studies and research, this book explores how play can be an effective tool for introducing and deepening children’s understanding of mathematics. In addition, this book also emphasizes the importance of listening to and understanding how children think about mathematics and how this can shape more inclusive and participatory teaching methods.
