Augmented Reality (AR) involves the live presentation of digital objects within the real environment, offering supplementary details to tangible objects and facilitating interactive experiences. The benefits of AR in education, including heightened interest and motivation and enhanced learning enjoyment, render AR a captivating technology. Research on AR in education also becomes an intriguing topic to explore. In this study, we conducted bibliometric analysis to uncover trends and developments in AR research. We selected 568 articles from the Scopus database that met publication criteria, focusing on the field of education, in English, and in the form of articles rather than books, spanning from 2014 to 2023. The results showed that AR-related publications have been increasing since 2014, with significant growth since 2019, reaching its peak with a 100% increase in 2023. This rise was driven by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States leads in the number of AR publications, followed by technologically advanced countries occupying the top 10 positions. Keywords most frequently used alongside AR include Virtual reality, education, e-learning, and technology. Future bibliometric research can delve deeper with broader databases and different time ranges to continue tracking developments in AR-related research trends. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
