The purpose of the study is to link the improvement of the quality of the formation of students' practical competence in geography and the improvement of the methodology analysed from a scientific point of view, in particular, the issues of pedagogical approaches to learning aimed at increasing students' motivation in the formation of special competences related to science and improving teaching methods based on the specific characteristics of science. The methods in the study were pedagogical, psychological, and methodological resources, didactic materials, study and analysis of the results of activities, interviews, observations, pedagogical experiments, and mathematical and statistical processing. The results of the study showed that the study of scientific and methodical literature on the topic of research, didactic foundations (principles, forms, tools) of teaching geography to students, and their involvement in the educational process (reproductive, productive, and cognitive criteria for evaluating students' practical competence in application have been developed. The rationale for these results is to improve the methodology for the formation of students' practical competence in teaching geography in secondary schools. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.
