Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed significant educational challenges and suddenly forced schools worldwide to shift to distance learning. This transformation drives schools to create online learning experiences that adhere to the new norms. The aim of the study is to investigate students’ attitudes, experiences, and perceptions toward mathematics in an online setting during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was a qualitative case study, assisted by an online survey of 22 questions on attitudes, responses, and motivation. The research involved 1,089 students from 13 province in Indonesia. This study shows that students prefer to learn mathematics at school than at home and they miss learning mathematics in the classroom. Regardless of the condition, students believe that mathematics is helpful for life applications, helps them to get a job, improves career prospects and opportunities, and can be the basis for what they will study next. © 2026 American Institute of Physics Inc..
