This study aims to analyze student errors in solving linear program problem using Newman's analysis. The subjects of this study are 24 students of XI grade in a school in Rokan Hulu, Indonesia. Data were collected using tests and documentation. Data analysis was done by using descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that there are still many students who made mistakes in solving linear program problems. Based on data analysis result using Newman's error analysis procedure, it is concluded that students do (1) reading errors of 15.28%, (2) comprehension errors of 30.67%, (3) transformation errors of 4.17%, (4) process skill errors of 22.22%, (5) encoding errors of 59.72%. The most frequent errors were encoding errors, while the least errors were transformation errors. This is because students are not used to solving word problems systematically and come to the conclusion stage. This error analysis can be used to determine the location of student errors, so that it can be considered for teachers to improve learning. © 2023 Author(s).
