Abstract

One of the fundamental abilities in supporting student problem solving is the ability to metacognition. This ability involves students' thought processes in planning, monitoring, and assessing each piece of information to determine problem-solving solutions. The importance of metacognition skills is not in line with the facts in the field, where students are still fragile in solving problems that require thought processes. This study aims to train students' metacognition skills with the Bugis Bone local wisdom-based LAPS-Heuristics learning model consisting of mappasituju, marola, mappasituru, maccule, and mappasilolongeng. The research method uses one-group pretest-posttest design type experiments that are tested in three classes to see the consistency of the application of the LAPS-Heuristics learning model with local wisdom in its effect on improving the ability of student metacognition. Instruments used include observation, interviews, written tests, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are descriptive statistics to describe students' metacognition ability in each testing class. The results showed increased students' metacognition ability in each testing class, namely by 23.33 in trial 1, 21.67 in trial 2, and 60.39 in trial 3. This indicates that applying the LAPS-Heuristics learning model with local wisdom can improve students' metacognition skills. © 2023 Author(s).
