The Development of Instructional Design for Limit of Function: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) with PRISMA protocol for reviewing new instructional design for limit of function in Calculus. Filtering 309 articles from scopus and google scholar database, this articles analyse 4 (A1-A4) articles from scopus and 5 articles (A5-A9) from google scholar. The results show that for RQ1, the topic most frequently studied by researchers is epsilon-delta definition. RQ2, which offers details on how research studies are distributed according to countries, methodology design, year of publication, and study level. According to the findings, the USA continues to dominate research on the limit of function. Other results indicate that the quantitative-qualitative mix approach continues to dominate research on limit of function. However, the distribution of data by year of publication reveals that research and publications about instructional design of limit of function are not popular. The last is the majority of limit of function research is conducted by undergraduates. RQ3 the most of the reasons why redesign the instructional for teaching limits is because it comes from the difficulties of students to understand the concept of limits itself. RQ4 regarding the new instructional design. RQ5 asked questions regarding the impact of new instructional design, all articles from A1-A9 produce new instructional designs for limit of function that can improve students' abilities both qualitatively and quantitatively. From this result, educators will have better options in addressing students' difficulties in learning limit concepts. © 2026 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
