Abstract

This study aims to examine the results of the characterization of CaCO3 using the X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) spectrum characterization. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is an inorganic biomaterial that occurs naturally and is the most abundant in the earth's crust. One of the materials with the main component CaCO3 is found in limestone, marble, minerals, snails, coral, pearls, egg shells, and shells. The XPS assessment method is carried out by studying literature collected from published articles from 2012 - 2022 (10 years). Based on the results of the research using XPS spectrum analysis, it was stated that there was a chemical content or component of CaCO3 and a difference in the elemental composition of Ca, C, and O in CaCO3 compounds with varying proportions of 1, 4, and 7%. This research can be useful to present an explanation as a basis for information in knowing the components of CaCO3 which are characterized using XPS. © 2023 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
