Abstract

This study aimed to determine the morphology of Calcium Carbonate CaCO3) characterized using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The review was carried out using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method on literature that had been published from 2014 to 2022. AFM was invented by Greg Bannig, Calfin F. Quate, and Christopher Gerber in 1986 as an update of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). CaCO3 is one of the most abundant compounds in nature and has been widely applied in the fields of chemistry, physics, and biology. CaCO3 is widely used in various fields because it is non-toxic, and has good compatibility and degradability. Morphological characterization of CaCO3 is very important so that the desired criteria are suitable for the application. The results showed that CaCO3 had various morphological characteristics according to the precursors used, reactant concentration, temperature, aging time, and natural addictive substances. This research can be useful to present an explanation as a basis for information in knowing the morphological form of CaCO3 which is characterized using AFM. © 2023 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
