This study aims to determine the numeracy literacy ability of class VIII students based on the adversity quotient in solving HOTS questions. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 27 Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) with 32 class VIII students as the subject. Data collection techniques in this study were an adversity quotient (AQ) questionnaire, an ability test using HOTS questions, and interviews. The result of this research is that the numeracy literacy ability of the S5 climbers' type subject can solve 1-3 HOTS questions, namely the indicators of analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6). The numeracy literacy ability of the campers-climbers type S9 subject is able to solve question number 1 and 2, indicators of analyzing (C4) and evaluating (C5), but less capable for question number 3 of indicators of creating (C6). The numeracy literacy ability of the S32 type of subject campers can solve the number 1 problem, but the analytical indicator for the question number 2 type is less thorough when operating numbers. Furthermore, more is needed to question the number 3 indicators of creating. The numeracy literacy ability of the quitters-campers type S22 subject is unable to solve questions number 1-3. In this type of subject, the numeracy literacy ability is deficient. The implication is that in future studies, the same research can be carried out by adding other variables such as gender differences, comparing the abilities of two or more students at each level of adversity quotient, using various questions, or using other benchmarks. In addition, research can also be carried out to prove whether students who have high scores on the adversity quotient will always have high numeracy literacy skills or are always able to solve HOTS-type questions well. © 2026 American Institute of Physics Inc..
