Abstract

This study investigates the understanding of students with hearing impairment regarding the implementation of the COVID-19 epidemic health protocol through demonstration experiments. This study used one group pre-test and post-test design with ten students with hearing impairment in the age range of 6-22 years in Special Needs School in Payakumbuh, Indonesia. The study examined the understanding and awareness of students with hearing impairment about implementing the CoViD-19 health protocol. The explanation is given in three stages. First, intervention support by a visual theoretical explanation of the use of masks, maintaining distance through spraying trials, Last, explaining why washing should use soap periodically by mixing chemical testing between water, coconut oil, and soap. The level of understanding of students with hearing impairment assessed through surveys with Google form contains 30 questions that explore students' understanding and 15 questions about awareness of health protocol during CoViD19. The results showed that the score increased by 35.34% on awareness and 27.53% on understanding. This method impacts improving the understanding of students with hearing impairment and meaningful learning experience in learning abstract concepts for students with hearing impairment. © School of Engineering, Taylor's University
