Here, the objective of this study was to introduce our method to teach difficult subject to students with deaf and hard hearing (DHH). We focused on teaching pH of suspension containing colloidal particles. As a comparison, we also gave teaching about the analysis of pH in the solution system, in which this has been included in the standard curriculum for students with DHH. As a sample, we used four senior high school students with DHH. In our ideas, teaching pH measurements and analyses of suspension containing colloidal particles are important. By understanding these phenomena, students can improve their knowledge in the colloidal system in nature, such as Tyndall effect, colloidal formation, and understanding milk, coconut milk, and further soap foam formation. In this study, we used combination of teaching and experimental demonstrations to students. Thus, students were trained well to use their thinking skills to discover their own colloidal concepts. Indeed, we hope that the learning process will be more fruitful for students. We found that the appropriate learning model (as we suggested by combining conventional teaching and experimental demonstration) is a new model that can attract students' interest (especially for students with DHH) and their enthusiasm for learning. This model also gave students to be more active during the learning process. We also found that special method using total communication (signed, oral, auditory, written and visual aids) is required to make students easily understand. Indeed, different from normal students, repetition of materials’ lesson is required for students with DHH. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.
