Abstract

Objective: This study aims to evaluate singers’ perceptions of the quality, reliability, and usefulness of vocal warm-up and vocal exercise videos on YouTube, a widely used digital platform for self-guided vocal training. Methods: A quantitative survey was administered to singers from diverse backgrounds using a structured questionnaire consisting of 15 Likert-scale items grouped into three constructs: perceived quality, reliability, and usefulness of YouTube vocal exercise videos. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and reliability testing. Cronbach’s alpha was employed to assess internal consistency. Results: Participants (N = 250) expressed generally positive perceptions of YouTube as a supplementary vocal training tool. Mean scores across items exceeded the midpoint, indicating favorable evaluations of instructional clarity, applicability, and accessibility. The instrument demonstrated excellent reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.939), confirming strong internal consistency among items. Conclusion: Singers perceive YouTube as a valuable and practical resource for vocal warm-ups and technique development. However, given the variability of content quality on the platform, YouTube should be considered a complementary—rather than primary—training resource. The findings highlight the need for more expert-produced, evidence-based vocal content online. © 2026 The Voice Foundation. Published by Elsevier Inc.
