This study was motivated by the misconceptions experienced by fifth-grade elementary students in learning the concept of quadrilateral plane figures, due to the suboptimal use of mathematics textbooks and the lack of available teaching materials tailored to the developmental tasks and needs of the students, resulting in their low mathematical conceptual understanding. The aims of this research were to develop teaching materials in the area of plane figures for fifth grade, to assess the feasibility of RME-based teaching materials, to evaluate improvements in students' conceptual understanding, and to describe responses to the use of teaching materials based on the RME approach. This study used the ADDIE model, which includes five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The results obtained include the development of teaching materials based on RME using the ADDIE model, with a material expert review outcome of 97% rating it as excellent, a learning design expert review of 90% also rated as excellent, a learning practitioner review of 96.25% rated as excellent, and student responses at 93.33% qualifying as excellent. The improvement in conceptual understanding was also demonstrated by students with an n-gain score of 0.75, categorized as high. The findings indicate that the teaching materials based on RME in the area of plane figures are feasible for use. This study concludes that teaching materials based on the RME approach can be effectively utilized to help fifth-grade students construct their understanding of the area of plane figures. © 2025 Author(s).
